Born Jamesetta Hawkins on Jan. 25, 1938, the woman the public would come to know as Etta James was born in L.A. to a 14-year-old mother. Her mother claimed Jamesetta’s father was white pool player Rudolf Walter Wanderone Jr., better known as Minnesota Fats. It was a humble beginning for a woman who’d become an icon in the blues and R&B world. Here: James singing in the 1960s.
